# No input file specified

 * Hi everyone,
 * I am trying to install WordPress on my hosting server.
    I transfered the wordpress
   file unzipped to the root directory but when i am going to [http://mywebsite.com/wp-admin/install.php](http://mywebsite.com/wp-admin/install.php),
   I get the following message: No input file specified.
 * Where can this come from?

 * I googled:
    `"No input file specified" wordpress install.php`
 * From what I saw, I would ask three questions:
    1. Are you running Windows (IIS) or Linux (Apache)?
    2. If Linux, is there an .htaccess file in the root directory (i.e. – the directory
       where /wp-admin/ is)? Remember, .htaccess can be hidden by some directory viewers.
    3. What version of PHP are you using?
 * Version 4 PHP is a problem. Pre-existing .htaccess can be a problem. And IIS 
   environments have some issues sometimes, too.
 * WordPress requires:
    PHP version 5.2.4 or greater MySQL version 5.0 or greater

 * Thank you Tara! I followed this link as a Bible haha but they do not mention 
   this trouble.
 * And I am neither on Windows (IIS) or Linux… :/
    As well I am using PHP 5.3

 * If you don’t know whether your web host is running Windows or Linux, then please
   indicate who your web host is and which hosting package you bought.
 * Did you check for an .htaccess file? If it is there, you may want to temporarily
   rename it to test.htaccess and see if that solves your problem.

 * During the Order Process for Basic, they give you a choice of Linux or Windows.

 * During the Order Process for Basic, they give you a choice of Linux or Windows.
   If you chose Windows, and aren’t using the web hosting for anything else, I would
   suggest you switch to Linux. WordPress just runs better on Linux, and that Google
   I did (see above) indicates lots of “no input file” errors on Windows.
