I have had a WP blog installed on my domain for a while and it’s worked fine. Yesterday I installed the new WP 2.3 to a subdomain and imported the files from my old blog. So now I have a copy of my old blog in a subdomain.Everything works but images are not showing up.

When I use the link to images in the wp-content/upload folder of my main blog, they show up in my new blog fine. The problem is that images in the WP folders installed on my subdomain are not showing up. Not just pics in posts but images in the theme preview page are not appearing either, and the login page has only text and boxes.

I’ve checked the permissions: all are 644 for files and 755 for folders.
There are no redirections on the subdomain.
The image files are present in the folders, they’re just not showing up.

I’ve scoured the forums and documentation for a solution. I’d really appreciate any help.

    Thanks.

  • Can you provide the url so we can check it for you?

The original blog that works and The new one that doesn’t

I’ve just discovered that the drop down boxes for discussion, post password, post slug etc, aren’t working.

I’d appreciate any help you can give, shadow. 🙂

Ok, the problem lies in the fact you are running both sites off the one database. The newest is not working because it does not have the correct siteurl/home locations.

What are you trying to accomplish here exactly? A safe look at how 2.3 works before making the jump?

I set up a new datbase for the new install. The old and new blogs should have separate databases. Oh no, I messed up, I think. 🙁
I purely wanted to make sure the blog was working in the subdomain before I deleted it from the main domain. If I remove the old blog, should the new one work properly?

The safest way to go is to backup your current database – the one you want to keep – and then do the upgrade to 2.3 as directed.

If you make sure you backup first – the very worst that could happen is that you may need to reinstall, but you will not lose your content. [Please note: This a worst case scenario and I doubt it will happen]

I removed WP from the subdomain and deleted the new blog’s database. That left only the original blog’s database.I then moved moved WP from the main domain to the subdomain, following the instructions set out here:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress
The blog has moved to the new domain but the problem remains. 🙁 I uploaded a new image just to test, and it doesn’t show up.

If you would like to email me, I will give you a hand.

Thank you, that’s very kind of you. I’m just going to try upgrading to 2.3 (the WP I moved is an older version) to see if that fixes anything. If it doesn’t, I’ll certainly take you up on your offer of help. 🙂

The incredibly kind and patient shadow put in a lot of time and effort and fixed up whatever the problem was. Thank you so much, shadow, and this thread can now be closed! 🙂
