No German Translation available / does not show up

Hello there,
I’m using Gwolle Guestbook on
http://awo-ortsverein-dachau.de/gaestebuch/
I have version 1.6.0 installed.
As the site is in German I like to have the button and “(no entries yet)” and the back end in German.
Unfortunately I can’t find a German .po or .mo file within the plugin, and trying to “Update Translations” on the WP dashboard does not help as it says that everything is up to date.
I copied and pasted the German translation and created an “own” German .po and .mo file and uploaded these through FTP, but this did not help as well.
May I please ask for assistance to get the plugin displayed in German?
Do I have to upload a “gwolle-gb-de_DE.po” and a “gwolle-gb-de_DE.mo” file and if yes, where? Or do I have to add the parts to be translated anywhere else?
