I have been struggling for some time now, to get my WordPress installation to accept zip and rar file types.
it’s very confusing because I have already uploaded 2 .zip files, but the third got denied. after countless hours messing about I find an addon to show me added mime types, in the list of accepted mime types I find .zip and .rar. so I try a .jpg and that won’t even work now…

so now I cannot upload any files to my WordPress, any and all help is greatly appreciated

Different zip creation programs may use different mime types, so you’ll need to examime the mime type of the rar and zip files that won’t upload and make sure they’re also included in your list of allowed mime types.

wow, thank you, why did i not think of googling it…

As i already tried to say, something is worng with my WordPress instalation, since no file whatsoever is accepted.

What changes have you made to your mime types? Please pastebin your code.

Thank you for the suggestion Steve, i have tried various zip, jpg and png files without success.

after instaling the “WP Add Mime Types” addon i found that both zip and rar was allowed as default so i removed any changes to my funtions.php.

If you’re using that plugin, I suggest you post something in their support forum. You may have to explicitly enable all file types you want there. Don’t know because I don’t use that plugin.

i had the problem prior to installing the addon, also i have not made any changes using the addon.

If i recall correctly, you did not have problems before with .jpg files.

Sorry, I had you confused with someone else with a similar problem. What error do you see if you try to upload a .jpg?

nevermind, deactivating the addon allowed me to upload jpegs again, sorry for that.
