Support » Fixing WordPress » No Feeds – Am I A Complete Dunce?

  • Hi all,

When it comes to feeds… I think I have an intelligence of an ameba!

I know what feeds are… sort of… I know by default, wordpress provides links to feeds for your blog.

But for the life of me, I can’t find them on my blog page?

Can anyone help me? I’m currently runing round like a headless chicked trying to figure our why on earth I don’t have any links to my blog in feed form.

I’ve read http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Feeds but it isn’t helping me at all… it seems to be saying I should already have at least one link to a feed form of my blog.

And when I opened up sidebar.php (as apparently this is one area where feeds are displayed) I saw no lines of code refereing to feeds. And as for footer.php… where is it? It isn’t in my wp-admin folder, and I can’t find it in any other folder?

    My blog site is http://www.TiffanyLampWorld.com/blog

can anyone help? Can anyone see any feed links on this site?

I’ve looked in the wp-admin dashboard pages for anything to activate feeds on my site… but can’t see anything.

If I click on Entries (RSS) or Comments (RSS) at the bottome of my blog page I get an error page (feed:http://www.tiffanylampworld.com/blog/?feed=rss2) saying the feed cannot be displayed.

hhmmm… is the Entries(RSS) link at the bottom of my blog my rss feed link? If so… why do I get a “page can not be displayed” message when I click on it?

Sorry if I’m being stuppid… I just have no clue what I’m meant to do?

  • Your feed URL is http://www.tiffanylampworld.com/blog/?feed=rss2

That is the link at the bottom of the page, but it cannot be displayed because the feed: prefix isn’t supported by Internet Explorer.

    BTW: footer.php is in wp-content/themes/default/footer.php

    Thanks Ethilien,

I found footer.php and removed the “feed:” from the href bit of code, and now it goes to tiffanylampworld.com/blog/?feed=rss2 :o)

Opps… I think I should put the “feed:” bit back though! I’m guessing if I had some sort of RSS feed reader installed then clicking on Entries (RSS) would display something more pleasing than xml code!

Ok… now I know where my rss feed link is… I’ll go and read up some more on what how I’m meant to use it!

    Thanks for your help!

    Genolus,

Seeing the xml code in a browser (like Firefox) is a good sign. Before you removed “feed:” I’ll bet your browser didn’t know what to do with the RSS link. Now it displays the xml, which at least tells you you seem to have the right code.

I have not used a feed reader per se, but another way people use the RSS link or button is to copy the link for the feed and then paste it into an aggregator like NetVibes (see netvibes.com).

NetVibes aggregates (gathers) information about any number of feeds and displays them in an easy-to-manage window.
