Support » Theme: Storytime » No edit link for admin on page template

  • Resolved Edna Houston

I notice that none of the pages have the administrators edit link when viewing (like the single post template has). I am unable to figure out how to add it. Also I would like to enter a link on the blog sidebar before the widgeted section only my files don’t include a blog-sidebar although it appears and is called by the template. On what files can I make these changes.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi Edna,

I will do an update to this theme where the “Edit” link for pages is reinstated. Expect the update sometime today.

Regarding the other item that you described, are you wanting your sidebar to have a link in the column area itself and is it to always show there on all blog based pages with the blog sidebar? Plus, if I understand right, you want this to be above all the other widgets that might be published there?

Yes. Outside of the dynamic widgeted area. Don’t make a big deal of it. I mostly wanted to know which file contained the “blog-sidebar” code because I couldn’t find one.

Ooops I just updated Storytime to the newest version and now I do not have any sidebars on my blog pages. When I am on my blog page in customizer it says the theme has 10 widget areas but this page(index) doesn’t have any. I go to each of my pages and they don’t have any. Also, footer menu is gone.

For blog page, I have “default with sidebar” selected. If you go into widgets from Dashboard (not through Customizer) you can see that “Blog Sidebar” is populated with widgets, but no sidebar is visible from front-end or customizer.

Ignore the part about the missing sidebars. That is a plugin conflict. Now, I just have to find out which one it is.

I just have to run an errand and will come back but I might have a solution for you.
You also scared me when you said no sidebars…

    Back shortly.

Got back, but late. Anyway, about adding the link or something in the sidebar column but above the widgets, the sidebar file in question is the sidebar.php file.

You could use the custom HTML widget and keep it above the other widgets in that sidebar position (as an option).

Were you able to get your sidebar/widgets back?

Just a quick follow up…did you get the update with the edit link now on “pages”?

Yes, I got the update and the edit link is now back on pages. Thank you so muc! It is extremely “unhandy” to have to go back into dashboard->pages->edit page every time you have to make the smallest tweak.

Thank you for the clarification on the sidebar. I did find a workaround but it was my search for the workaround that caused the missing sidebar problem. The plugin “Widget Title Link” was not compatible and caused any sidebar with widgets to disappear. The “Enhanced Text Widget” did what I wanted once I turned off the plugin that conflicted with it 🙂

I complain about these conflicts but, in truth, I love them because I love solving puzzles. Sometimes I do things just to find out if I can do them. Right now I am trying to figure out how I can have category pages show only the linked article titles.
Also trying to work out a system for my series posts.

Thank you so much for your help. I love this theme and think I will probably end up purchasing the pro version after the first of the month (when I have the $$)

Good to hear the edit link worked. I don’t like the link but I have to realize others will want this, so I will make sure all future themes, including the premium versions, have that edit link in pages and posts.

As for the plugin/widget not being compatible, this is a very common thing with many plugins. Problem with WordPress is that it generally is limited in core features, so people have to install many third-party plugins. Unfortunately incompatibility with WP or other plugins, and sometimes themes can create frustration.

Anyway, I love getting the feedback from end-users, because it helps improve the theme(s), so thank you for posting the issue about the edit link.

Ok, one other question. When you are composing and select either page-right-sidebar, or
page-left-sidebar, you get a bottom sidebar. Just to let you know. I guess I will need to build a page template that has a sidebar.

    Hi Edna,

Probably best to create a new post for your new topic/question; the forum moderators will more likely request that.

Re-post your question as a new topic and I will be more than happy to follow up. When you re-post it, can you provide more info on what you are referring to? The bottom sidebar is actually coded in the theme’s footer file, so this will be available on all pages of your website.
