Hi, just for testing purposes try the following. Deactivate and reactivate the plugin. Then report back after a couple of days. This action sometimes fixes things in a plugin.

Unfortunately I already had disabled and re enabled the plug in but still no luck

Can you carry out a test. Create a download item, log out or use a different browser. Download the item and then check the stats in your site.

I have figured out, all the downloads were set with the ‘disable count’ option enabled (don’t know why)
