• I would put this in a Gutenberg Forum, but there is no place to start a new topic. There needs to be a new topic button large and visible.

That said, this is the problem. I did my due diligence and upgraded to Gutenberg. Prior to Gutenberg, I could add tags and also select categories easily. Now, I have to hit the publish button, and then a dropdown appears, and I can add tags at least, but it is an unnecessry two step process.

As for Categories, everything publishes under General, then I have to go to All Posts-Quick Edit-reselect the categories I want and publish again.

A lot of this is extra unnecessary work that Gutenberg has made mandatory since it is not as simple to use as the prior application.

It would be nice to go back to the pre-Gutenberg world, if not, simplify it please, take out these bugs. Thank you.

And there are other things I can’t figure out how to do in Gutenberg. The other, prior application, was friendly enough for non-techy people to use it.

I think sometimes the developers are trying to impress and compete against each other, but myself, as a common user, don’t like high tech, I like simple and useable. Thank you.

  • Hi,
The block editor does have a dropdown for categories, and a separate one for tags. They can be turned off, though, so you might not see them.

If you prefer the old editor, you can install the Classic Editor plugin.

If you’re not seeing the categories and tags there, check the site health area. It is possible something is interfering with your requests to the REST API, which would cause those to not show up, among other issues.
