• Hello all you good people, please help. Any and all suggestions and help welcomed!

I am relatively new to Word Press and was not informed about certain things before upgrading to the most recent version of WP (3.5.1)

My Website: http://www.aliencyborgs.com and My Theme (Boulevard) is no longer working properly with this most recent version of WP. Everything was working fine up until recently. None of my photos are showing up properly, my slider stopped working and you could see from different posts on the main page BEHIND the blog entries. I wrote to the Theme Creators and was told to “uninstall plugins”…I do not know HOW that would help my issues since the functionality that I needed would no longer be there. In any case I deactivated my 3rd party Flickr Plugin and my Slider started working again and the art work on the front page was fixed…but this left me with out a proper gallery plug in.

After going round and round with different Flickr plugins I decided to host all the pics on my site until I found a work around. Moving along I start to do my normal posting only to find out that NONE of the pictures in my gallery will present properly when clicked on. Instead of the picture of a model…I get what looks like a screen shot of the page with the an image of the model in the center of the “screenshot” as opposed to the picture just showing up in the center of the page.

Finally, the Theme Creator tells me to revert back to the previous version of WP.

NOW here is my problem, in researching HOW to do this, I’ve come across lots of posts saying to “Download the previous version and have your BACK UP handy.”

Well, I did not make a back up of my site before updating to this new version. My question is this: “What Happens If I Revert Back To The Previous Version of WP and Only Have a Current Back Up of My Site?” I do not have a previous back up BEFORE I “up graded”. Will my site still work?

Pls advise. Thank you in advance for any help!!!

    Jet O.

  • 1. Please back up your current files and database on your site.
    zip -rq yoursite.zip yoursitefolder/

    2. Remove the wp-admin folder and the wp-includes folder on your site.

    3. Download the previous WordPress zip (or tar.gz) file, then extract it, then upload all the files to your site.

    4. Visit your site and upgrade your database if there is some message asking you to do so.

    5. Done.

No! You cannot run WordPress 3.4 scripts with a 3.5 database.

Last week, one of my clients notified me that the post format “gallery” feature in the theme I built didn’t work. I looked into the issue and found that it worked in WordPress 3.4.2, but didn’t work in WordPress 3.5 or 3.5.1 since WordPress 3.5 modified the media uploader/manager. So I downgraded the WordPress 3.5.1 to WordPress 3.4.2 and it worked again.

Thanks @esmi, I’ll look into the database schema of WordPress 3.4.2 and WordPress 3.5.1 today.

I compared the database of WordPress 3.4.2, 3.5, and 3.5.1. The default data are a little different. The database schema is exactly the same.

See if your host has a database backup (not that you should not) of a most recent time when prev. version was installedif so, proceed with manual install of that version and that full db backup (consult with host)…

This is why we always backup first!
