Installed and loaded pages to test with no apparent improvement. Also ran G Analytics > Bahavior > Site Speed > Speed Suggestions and got the same suggestions from Google as before I downloaded gzip ninja.

Is there some delay before the benefit begins?

The benefits are realized right away but the delay in Google analytics is roughly 24-48 hours.

With that being said, try this: http://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/

Does it say "enable compression" after you run your test? If so, on what elements? If they are third party images from a CDN or a JavaScript hosted externally you can't control them, but you should have realized an immediate benefit.

Email me the URL if you want to keep it private or post it here, I can diagnose and give you the best ideas for a better site

CustomWPNinjas solved my speed issue and then some! I moved my site to their hosting from Yahoo and, with a free health check on their part, the site is now wicked fast!

    Thank you Ninjas!

    Yeah Bob - you're welcome.

Turns out, he was on Yahoo and it does not allow any edits to .htaccess (among many other incredibly odd things that Yahoo hosting does)
