 * Armed with the knowledge that I spent several minutes looking at my profile, 
   does anyone know where the API is actually hidden?

 * Go to wordpress.COM. That’s “COM”.
 * Sign up for an account there. It will give you a free blog on wordpress.com, 
   but you don’t have to use it.
 * The API key is on your profile at wordpress.COM. Not on your own website.

 * This seems completely backwards due to the fact that akisnet is automatic if 
   you have the wordpress hosted blog and don’t actually need a key.
 * But of course it worked.
