    Hello,

Somehow analytics suddenly stopped working and after days of trial and error, I can’t get it back to work. Site kit is Successfully connected with analytics, search console and tag manager

    My domain is: https://mercuryredstone.com/

The steps that I have taken so far:

    1. Create new GA4 property (correctly connected with my UA-property and tag manager)
    2. Setup tag manager
    3. Test tags for firing with tag manager extension (all seems fine)
    4. Connect analytics with search console (for whatever reason)
    5. Change UA-property URL from HTTP to HTTPS

All the above to no avail.

I must admit though that I do find all the options rather cumbersome and have very little way of knowing whether everything was setup correctly, apart from sensible understanding and lots (lots!) of trial and error.

I also do not make use of any tagging code on my website, assuming that Site Kit would do that for me (as that is what it says).

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Boudewijn

Thanks for reaching out and providing a thorough explanation of what’s occurring and the steps you’ve taken. To start troubleshooting this issue and ensure Site Kit works as expected can you share the following:

    1. When you access the Analytics tab within Site Kit does it state a message such as “Data is not yet available” or something else?
    2. Did you install any optimization or caching plugins, or alternatively make any changes to such plugins before this started to occur?
    3. When you temporary deactivate LiteSpeed Cache and revisit your Site Kit dashboard from a Chrome browser incognito window does data display?

From inspecting your site I can also see various optimizations of your site. In previous cases particular configurations have resulted in reporting issues, so the above information should help us troubleshoot the cause.

    Hello James,

Thanks for your quick reply (I tried contacting Google, but the support chat never worked and so far no email response either).

    1. It says Analytics Gathering Data in a blue bar at the top.
    2. The only caching plugin that I currently run is Litespeed. I did try out a number of other cache plugins previously but have removed all of them.
    3. Deactivation Litespeed and logging into my Site Kit from an incognito window didn’t help.

I thought that maybe I had set up something incorrectly. Can you see/confirm that my analytics configuration is indeed correct and that my tags are firing? I’m asking because there are soooo many – hidden – options and functionalities that it is virtually impossible to know for a layman like me.

    Cheers,

Your Analytics tracking snippet does indeed seem to be firing. To ensure this you can always check the Google analytics real time report, while visiting your site (as a non logged in user).

To continue troubleshooting why no data is appearing within your Site Kit Analytics dashboard please share the following:

    1. When you mentioned you create new GA4 property did you also change your the Site Kit connected property at any stage?
    2. Do you see traffic for this site when you access Analytics directly, while opening that same connected property?
    Thread Starter Boudewijn

    (@wbrooseboom)

    1. To my understanding site kit is connected to the UA property, which in turn is connected to the GA4 property.

But I must admit I find it very difficult to comprehend the logic of it all. I only recently setup tag manager (because I thought I had to), but wasn’t even aware that I needed to create individual triggers. It remains an enigma to me and I had hoped that Site Kit would partly solve that. Currently I see the following in Site Kit:

An existing tag was found on your site (GTM-MVPP4VB). If you later decide to replace this tag, Site Kit can place the new tag for you. Make sure you remove the old tag first.

    Account
    6003576699

    Container ID
    GTM-MVPP4VB

    Tag Manager Code Snippet
    Snippet is inserted

Placing two tags at the same time is not recommended.

    2. The issue is that I do not see any traffic in my real time report. Not for the GA4 nor the UA property.

    1. To my understanding site kit is connected to the UA property, which in turn is connected to the GA4 property.

If you’ve connected a Universal Type property with a GA4 type property you can disconnect at any stage. I don’t however think this is impacting your reporting, it shouldn’t make any difference.

But I must admit I find it very difficult to comprehend the logic of it all. I only recently setup tag manager (because I thought I had to), but wasn’t even aware that I needed to create individual triggers

You don’t need to connect the Tag Manager module within Site Kit if you’re looking to implement Analytics on your site, connecting the Analytics module is enough to start tracking your site. While Site Kit at present supports a Universal Type property at present there will be full GA4 support coming very soon.

    2. The issue is that I do not see any traffic in my real time report. Not for the GA4 nor the UA property.

I see. In that case I suspect you may be checking your site while logged in. Did you open the real time report while having your site open in a browser incognito window? By default Analytics when connected via Site Kit does not track logged in users, you can however change this setting if you wish. When accessing your site and checking is your real time traffic recorded note that you may also need to accept the cookie notice on your site.

Let me know once you check your site once more for real time traffic and I can troubleshoot further with you.

I see what you’re saying and it certainly clarifies things.

But I did already check the incognito option (many times, trust me) and all remains 0.

    (@jamesosborne)

In that case what we can do is ensure there are no third party plugins impacting reporting. Please follow the steps below, and ensure you are visiting the same connected property when checking the Analytics Live Reporting feature (while also accepting any cookie notices):

    1. Install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.
    2. Navigate to “Plugins > Health Check & Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot”.
    3. From the same screen click on the “Available Plugins” tab at the top right and then click on the “Enable” option next to “Site Kit by Google”
    4. View your site once more while not logged in (preferably from an incognito window)

Let me know if you can then view any live traffic from the Site Kit connected property (UA-142417155-1).

    (@wbrooseboom)

But what is that error message about that I have two tags on my site (see my earlier reply)?

Is that related to tag manager, where I have setup two tags: one for the GA4 and one for the UA property?

Or has it somehow something to do with my site?

    Thread Starter Boudewijn

    (@wbrooseboom)

    Ok, thanks. I’m on it!

    (@jamesosborne)

But what is that error message about that I have two tags on my site (see my earlier reply)?

This can be disregarded and will occur with a standard Site Kit setup. This is also a legacy Chrome extension and is no longer in active development. For a more accurate check please use https://tagassistant.google.com.

    Thread Starter Boudewijn

    (@wbrooseboom)

I followed the steps as you indicated and the real time overview remains zero.

    Thread Starter Boudewijn

    (@wbrooseboom)

The troubleshoot plugin does ask me to install a default theme. Not sure whether I should do that.

    Plugin Support James Osborne

    (@jamesosborne)

Sorry to hear that. Rather than using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin (which in fact wouldn’t really work in troubleshooting mode) can you temporarily deactivate LiteSpeed cache before performing one more check on your site, using again the Analytics real time report? I’m on your site now also so that hit should be recorded.

If you don’t see any visits please share your Site Health information via this form and I’ll check your current setup.

    Thread Starter Boudewijn

    (@wbrooseboom)

Still nothing, I’ll fill out the form. Thanks so far!

Thanks for sharing. From inspecting the details provide I suspect there is some Litespeed configuration applied that may be impacting your Analytics reporting. You’ll also find a reference of a non standard snippet on your site in this screenshot.

If you want to once again temporarily deactivate LiteSpeed cache and disconnect the Tag Manager module within Site Kit before I check your site source code once more. (You already have the Analytics snippet placed via Site Kit, although with what looks like a modified snippet due to your Litespeed Cache configuration.
