 * Hi,
 * When I try to access the network admin area of my WP-installation, the following
   error message is displayed: “You do not have permission to access this page.”
   My website runs fine, I can access the dashboards, I can FTP but I cannot update
   any plugins or add/remove users. My domain is at [http://www.cornetsdegroot.com/](http://www.cornetsdegroot.com/)

   Any help is much appreciated.
 * Rutger

 * Are you logged in as the superadmin?
 * Read [http://halfelf.org/2013/recovering-your-cape/](http://halfelf.org/2013/recovering-your-cape/)
   about how to recover your super admin cape, if lost.

 * Hi Mika,
 * I am so grateful for your response; finally someone is listening! Unfortunately
   though, the instructions in the post you’re referencing are too technical for
   me. I don’t know how to go in through mySQL, or what WP-CLI is.
    Would you have
   other or additional suggestions for me?
 * Thanks again!

 * Well, it looks like Mika referred you to her post and she knows her stuff, inside
   and out. The thing with WordPress is you have to be willing to don the cape she
   uses as her metaphor in the post. Forget about CLI; think about editing your
   database. Certainly not recommended for the faint of heart or the beginner, but
   if you can muster your Teutonic sensibilities, I think you can do this. Your
   hosting company might be able to help you with the database if they provide phpMyAdmin.
   The part of Mika’s post that you’ll find useful, tho, should be this chunk:

 * Hey WP Valet,
 * Thanks for your reply, too!
    I managed to download and install phpMyAdmin and
   I get the login screen with my user name and password prefilled, but it says
   it cannot login to the MySQL server (error code #2005). Can you help me along?

 * Prefilled is no good because it’s probably serving up your cpanel credentials.
   Use the credentials that are in your wp-config for the database.

 * Thanks, I am in! And I see the info for wp_sitemeta. Now, Mika says I should “
   add one user, and use that to correctly restore power to the others.”
    What user
   should I add? And should the username that is there, e.g. ‘superman’ in Mika’s
   example, be the same as the one that I got from the wp-config.php file? Because
   right now, it isn’t. I very much appreciate your staying with me on this!

 * The user in my example is an _EXAMPLE_.
 * Pick one of your users. If your account is RHCdG, add that. If it’s monkeybutter,
   add that 🙂 Extrapolate 😉 This is the ID you log into WP with, NOT the one from
   wp-config, that’s your DB user.

 * Hi Mika,
 * Yes, I already understood that your ‘superman’ was a placeholder, I just wondered
   which user I should replace it with, but now you’ve explained it.
    Alright, now
   I have this user that I use to log into WP with but that was already happening.
   I am already able to log into WP using the …/wp-admin/ screen. My problem is
   that I cannot login as a network admin, that is when I attempt to go to …/wp-
   admin/network/ on my domain, the message “You do not have permission to access
   this page” is displayed. My feeling is I am still at first base. What can I do,
   please?

 * 1) What is the user ID you’re logging in as?
 * 2) What did you put in for `a:1:{i:0;s:8:"superman";}`?

 * 1) rhcdg
 * 2) `a:1:{i:0;s:5:"rhcdg";}`
 * Thanks!

 * It’s case sensitive. Are you 100% sure that it’s rhcdg, all lower case?

 * Yes, absolutely sure. I just checked both the login screen and the phpMyAdmin
   entry again.

 * Check the user table in the DB to make sure of that. That’s where the capitalization
   would be noticed 🙂
 * (If you make an ID post Multisite activation, it’ll be lowercase, but PRE it
   might be camelcased, so you do have to be particular.)
 * Also what table and field did you edit for `a:1:{i:0;s:5:"rhcdg";}` ? I know
   what I said to edit 🙂 Gotta ask to be sure.

 * As a matter of fact, there was this anti-hack plugin that both recommended and
   enabled to change the network ID from the usual “admin” to e.g. “rhcdg”, which
   is what I did maybe a month or 2 ago. I am sure I logged into the network after
   that many times.
 * However, in the user table in the DB it says “rhcdg” under user_nicename while
   under display_name it has “RHCdG”. So there is a discrepancy there. But does
   it ring an alarm bell with you?
 * As for your last question, I cannot answer it because I have no clue. I do appreciate
   your following up on this one, though!

    If we ran out of clues, what would anybody suggest I do in this
   situation?
