• After updating WordPress to the latest version I lost access to my website. When I type my web address then wp-admin I get the following message:
Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/portfood/public_html/portfood/wp-content/plugins/akismet/akismet.php:1809) in /home/portfood/public_html/portfood/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 391

I cannot get to my dashboard to make changes. What do I do ??

    Haecceity,

Thanks for the suggestion but I cannot get to my files because I cannot sign-in. I was dumb enough not to back-it up. I have to change or at least redo that one file. I am hoping for someone at WordPress to get into that file and hopefully fix it.

I have to change or at least redo that one file.

And you dont have an FTP client? Not being able to access your site via the web is a moot point. You use an FTP client to fix whatever you need to fix. If need be, you delete askimet.php from your plugins directory (I believe that little hint is at the bottom of the plugins page still for all to read: Trouble with a plugin .. delete it from the plugins directory.. blah blah blah)

    Whooami,

My site was started by someone else. I amy have to see what he knows about my problem. I don’t know if I have a FTP client or not. I do all my changes on wordpress. It sounds like you are very knowledgeable and feel like a fool. Worst of all I’m from Mn. also.

If you dont know if you have an ftp client, you probably dont have one. But if you want to manage the small crisis’ that occur when having a web site, youre probably going to want to get one, and learn how to access your site and those files using it.

How did you upgrade WP without uploading the files using an ftp client? Through fantastico?

I did use Fantastico. But knowing me I bet I messed something up.

OK, so you have cpanel available then, right? your site is hosted at hostgator, and they use cpanel.

In that case, just go into cpanel, find your way over to the file manager thing, and using the file manager, navigate to wp-content/plugins/askimet/ and delete askimet.php

that will solve your immediate issue, at least.

Never thought of that. I do have cpanel and I will try it. Thanks
