Support » Plugin: Simple Links » Nice idea… but why not use and extend the WordPress link table ?

  • The idea to enhanced the wordpress links section is good. But any implementation should at minima reuse existing features of wordpress (such as said link section) and build on it.

This plugin create a whole new system to manage link, totally incompatible with existing wordpress mecanisms.

I know that using existing features can be a hassle, but with wide used cms like WordPress, it’s the way to go.

Said link section is no longer part of WordPress. It was left available per the rules of backward compatibility but has now been officially deprecated for years.

One of the reasons it was deprecated was because it was not enhanceable.

Giving this plugin a bad rating because it doesn’t enhance something that is not enhanceable and has been deprecated seems counter intuitive. It will only accomplish misleading someone who is new to link management into thinking the long gone link manager is a good thing to use.

I’m not suggesting that everyone needs to use this plugin. I’m simply suggesting that is is inappropriate to steer users toward a system that is long deprecated.
