• Nice,

but… Why put this setting on the user profile page and not an on/off switch in the admin menu or toolbar? Also, it would be nice if the user could decide what exactly is dark. For me, the current setting is simply too dark to be able to work.

  • Hi there, the reason this is on the user profile page and not the admin settings page is so it can be enabled/disabled on a per user basis rather than forcing all users to have it on in case they don’t want it.

The dark colours seem to be favoured by most as they’ve found the regular dashboard too bright with the grey and white colours. Thanks for letting us know your thoughts though, all feedback helps!

With the on/off switch on the admin dashboard, people would still be possible to choose whether or not to use the feature, wouldn’t they? Or is anything that it places on the toolbar/admin backend always on/off for everybody?

It saves people clicks: opening their profile page, click there, go back to what they were doing. Maybe it’s just me, I never found the profile page that useful a feature. Some parts of it, like the color scheme chooser, could very well be placed straight at the admin backend with a dropdown. Again, less clicks.

    Oh well 🙂

Oh, you mean once the plugin is activated then it should be enabled for everyone until they turn it off, sort of like an opt-in/out feature-thing? Interesting idea – the only issue at the moment is just ensuring everything is properly switched over to the darker styles as there’s the odd bit here and there which needs a tweak.

The implementation could be improved though, I know what you mean. Maybe it’s worth looking into more options around enabling it for users then and making it more obvious the setting is there or something.

If you use GitHub, there’s a log of issues kept there and you can also help with code contributions if you want to. There’s a bit more information and some discussions around certain decisions/choices etc that might be useful.

If I were any good in coding, I would surely do something with that. Unfortunately, that is not one of my skills, I am more of a user-friendliness tester kind of guy 😉

What I mean for implementation is basically this:

Plugin installed, which means it is there and installs a switch´ in the toolbar/left menu. Two settings 0 and 1, plugin defaults to 0 (off). When the user wants to darken the theme, by means of theswitch´ user sets plugin to 1 (on).

    Cheers

Okay sure, I’ll see what sort of thing we can implement in a new release and whether this would work. From what I gather, you’re saying you want the option for admins to turn Dark Mode on/off globally before users can set a preference?

I had a similar experience trying this plugin. I’d expect a admin header menu entry (or similar) to be able to switch dark mode on/off (per user) without going to the profile. Setting it on in Profile would activate this switch to show..
