• Hello,

we had (suddenly) problems using NextGen with an old theme which was no longer supported. So we switched to a new theme by Studiopress (Genesis with Corporate them) what I’ve also used for other websites. This theme works fine with NextGen so we hoped the problem would be solved…

It didn’t solve anything: activating NextGen changes the complete website to a blank page. So we de-activated NextGen, removed it and installed it again. NextGen reported installation failure because the directory already existed. So we used FTP to delete the NextGen-plugin-directory.

Now we learned the new installation creates the plugin-directory and then reports: installation failed, directory already exists.
We also changed the names of gallery to gallery-old and ngg-styles to ngg-styles-old. The problem didn’t change and still remains.

What should I do next? Is it (probably) a problem with the WordPess-installation? Or something wrong witj the NextGen-installation?
Any help would be highly appreciated! 😉

@aloys de Vries – Are you completely removing the /nextgen-gallery/ folder and all of its contents from under /wp-content/plugins/ … unless there is a cache somewhere not seeing this action that should be all you need to manually remove a newly installed version of NextGEN Gallery.

    Thanks!

Yes, I just checked it again. NextGen from /nextgen-gallery/ folder and all of its contents from under /wp-content/plugins/ completely removed.
    Fresh plugin-installation and activated.
Then, trying to open http://www.donna-antonia.nl I only get a grey, empty screen.

So I deactivated and removed the plugin. Checking by FTP: everything is gone… The site is up and running again.

This was the message from NextGen after installing:

    Downloaden installatiepakket van https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/nextgen-gallery.2.1.0.zip…

    Uitpakken van pakket… (unpacking)

    De plugin installeren… (installing)

Doelmap bestaat al. /wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/ (destination folder already exists.)

Plugin installatie mislukt. (Plugin installation failed.)

Terug naar de plugininstallatie. (Return to plugininstallation).

@aloys de Vries – You are removing the /nextgen-gallery/ folder as well when manually deleting the plugin?

I only see 2 related folders: ngg_styles and gallery. Both in the folder wp-content. I did rename them ngg_styles-old and gallery-old. But that made no difference…

@aloys de Vries – The error reference would be pointing to (at least in a default WordPress installation) ../wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/

Make sure the /nextgen-gallery/ folder is also removed. The other folders would be find as is, I would actually recommend *not* renaming them.

We removed everything and the problem remains the same.
Also we tried to rollback to a former version og Nextgen, but the problem still remains…

@aloys de Vries – Please send us a Bug Report (http://nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug/ … please reference this topic) so we can get a better look under the page at your site.

We may need log in and FTP credentials for your WordPress installation, please include those with your Bug Report, too.

    Thanks!

@cais – Thank you very much! So the JQueru Updater caused the problem…
We’re very glad we can put our galleries back online now, thanks again!!

@aloys de Vries – I’m don’t expect the jQuery Updater plugin would have caused the update / install issues on your site but once NextGEN Gallery was installed and activated you could expect jQuery Updater to create other issues in NextGEN Gallery going forward.

… and you are very welcome. Thanks for all of your patience, too!
