Is there any “NextGEN Public Uploader” type functionality with this plugin, or is there a plugin that would work with WP Photo Album Plus to do this? (https://wordpress.org/plugins/nextgen-public-uploader/)

Our site’s users really love that capability, and we want to keep it, but would like to switch to WP Photo Album Plus.

If not, are there any plans to develop such functionality?

    Thank you.

    We have frontend upload capability.

Visit the documentation site and register for login.

Then visit the members page, and find the upload widget at the top of the sidebar.

Also on that page find your album with an upload link that opens the same dialog box as the widget. This feature is greatly configurable, see this doc page and Table II-H of the Photo ALbums -> Settings admin page

    Just for your info:
There is an easy way to import nextgen galleries into WP Photo Album Plus

Those are both great news. However, https://wppa.nl/ is returning a 500 error right now. I’ll check it out later.

I was looking at the instructions, and see “Import photos from: Ngg Galleries” option. Will it keep the actual images in their original folders, or copy them somewhere?

Also, what does the “Update existing photos” option do?

If I check “Do not create duplicates,” does that mean the album will use the existing folder? What does “Use backup if available” do? Your instructions don’t seem to address any of these settings.

    Thank you.

Importing from ngg galleries makes copies into the wppa system. It leaves the ngg system unchanged but no longer uses it after import, so when you are done you may delete the ngg galleries if you want.

Update existig photos means that any certain photo with any unique name will be used to overwrite all the photos with that exact same name anywhere in the wppa system, regardless of the album where it is.

Do not create duplicates means that you will not get the same photo twice in the same wppa album.

Use backup if available means: use the ngg backup file (likely the most original version of the photo) as the source file of the photo for the importing process.

Okay, thanks. I think it would be very useful to people to add that info to the page on imports at https://wppa.nl/docs-by-subject/admin-pages/import-photos/.

So, if a user had decided not to use ngg anymore, wouldn’t it make more sense to just move the files into wppa folders? Would wppa then automatically recognize those as albums, or would you use the “Import photos from: My depot” or what?

    Thank you.

Yes, i will enhance the doc page with this info. Thanx for pointing me into.

just move the files into wppa folders

It is a litttle bit more than just move the files. The two plugins have completely different data structures, and wppa will never change or remove data that belongs to other plugins.
It is the responsabiity of the admin to decide what to convert/import from nextgen and what to do after.

Also thanx for reporting the 500 on wppa.nl, i had this before and it turned out to be due to a capacity issue that should be fixed by now. If you encounter this or any other issue on wppa.nl, pls report it to me.

See the updated doc page: https://wppa.nl/docs-by-subject/admin-pages/import-photos/#nextgen and the explanation of other checkboxes in the previous paragraph.
