Nextgen not automatically importing and displaying metadata

I thought this was the case, but it isn’t. I use IPTC info in my iages, but they are not imported during upload. I have to check the images and then choose ‘Import metadata’ from the bulk actions menu.

Is this a bug or did I miss something?
