[NextGen] Help Please – how to expand galleries?

I am very new to WordPress (only discovered it last wee) and have been busy working on my site all week.

I am trying to use the NextGen photo gallery plugin but I have run into a problem.

I have to upload a new gallery every week and ideally i want one page on my site for PICS and each weeks photo should be marked as a gallery with a thumbnail

I think I have worked out how to do that using

[ album id=x template=extend]

But then once I update it to my site and click on the thumbnail it doesnt expand and nothing happens.

I realise this is probably a really dumb question but would appreacite any help anyone can give me.
