Support » Plugins » NextGen gallery – image resizing & memory usage

  • When I upload an 800kb jpg (with automatic thumbnail creation) or try to recreate thumbnails of an existing image in NextGen gallery, I get the following warning:

“Error : Exceed Memory limit. Require : 37.05 MByte”

    Has anybody else experienced this?

  • Well, a 800kb jpg loaded in memory may well turn to 20-30Mbytes or more. That’s how GD does it.

    Try putting

    ini_set ( “memory_limit”, “16M”)

    in the /wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery\lib\thumbnails.ini.php file.

    Worked for me. 🙂

This is almost certainly a php memory limit issue. Although why one file would need that much memory to process is a mystery.
