    Ooops, forgot one question:

    5. If nextGEN won’t work, can you recommend a compatible image program? I have tens of thousands of photos with Title, Caption, Comments, and Copyright embedded in the image meta data. I need a gallery program that will automatically transfer that data. NextGEN is the only one I’ve found so far.

    Hi roundamerica,

Sorry that you ran into issues here!

    1) When you used NextGEN–I presume you put a shortcode into the description field. Is that correct?

If so, did you also enable the “Allow shortcode expansion?” option under Directory Admin->Manage Form Fields for that field? By default, we turn that off for security reasons.

    2) I’m not sure I understand what you mean here–can you explain?

    3) We don’t support arbitrary URL imports for links to listings at this time. BD must have some control over the URL structure, unfortunately.

    4) Yes, we can handle that but that is a qualified yes. I have had users try this import on poor hardware and then complain it’s the plugin’s fault, when in reality, you need to have the right horsepower to back the race car, so to speak. And it’s not just a web server, you must also have the right bandwidth for your database server as well. I’ve noticed some dedicated plans with big servers are using SHARED databases, which makes for poor performance. For that kind of data, you definitely want to have good hardware and the right kind of database server to handle it. If you have those, 100K records is not an issue.

    5) Before we go there, let’s see if #1 clears it up. Report back on what you find.

Thanks SO MUCH for your detailed response!

    1. It works beautifully now that I have “Allow shortcode expansion” checked.

    2. I put a second instance of my title in the description box, and I give it an H2 tag, which search engines value on the keywords. But it doesn’t display that way. Not a big deal, so let’s not worry about it.

    3. Let me clarify. You allow url imports. When they appear in a Listing, there is also a field titled “Link Text (optional):” As this is not a column in the Import process, it requires manual data entry. Since there is clearly a field for this, I’m betting there is a column heading that will import it. ???

    Thanks again!

    Great! Glad to hear it.

The link text can be added easily as follows:

The text can be separated from the URL using a comma (,). as in “http://google.com,Google Inc.”.
Quotes should be used around the value if the comma (,) is also the CSV separator. Our current development version also allows semicolons (;) which removes the need for the quotes, but in the released (3.6.8) version you still need them.
