NextGEN Gallery 2.1.23 Causes White Screen

I am getting a white screen, when I disable all plugins but NextGEN Gallery all works fine. I tried deactivating, removing and re-installing the plugin, what worked fine for a few minutes and the white screen appeared again. Changing the theme also works; for a few minutes only and then the white re-appears.
