Support » Plugin: Avatar Privacy » Newest Update Breaks Website (fix)

  • UPDATE: Dev replied quickly and helped with “workaround fix”. Looks like the site that was affected was still running PHP 5.6 which is not like me as i like to keep that up to date 😛

Updating to PHP 7.2 should fix the PARSE Error Issue, if you get one.

The newest update of this plugin seems to break multisite websites. Please look into that. And yes I am sure it’s your plugin. I get an error message accessing the website after updating Avatar Privacy which leads to its directory. Sorry, have no time to replicate error to copy paste the exact error message here. Need the site to be online so not updating for now.

I am sorry that the update has caused a problem with your site and I understand that you are very upset. I‘d like to help resolve the situation ASAP, but I’ll need some information as a starting point. (There should be a PHP error log containing the last few error messages, so there is no need to break the site again.)

Thank you. I assume the site is running on PHP 5.6? It looks like I missed a reserved word on PHP 5.6 (DEFAULT) that is legal as a constant name in PHP 7.x. I‘ll release a fixed version tonight (unfortunately, I‘m on the road right now).

good tipp, this one was still running on 5.6, i updated it to 7.2, will update my post when i confirmed workaround-fix

Thanks. I’ve reproduced the issue in my development environment and confirmed that renaming the constant fixes it. Avatar Privacy 2.0.1 should be out as soon as the WP.org repository finishes syncing.
