Newbie – which Plugins for an events/directory site?

I’ve created a number of HTML/CSS websites in the past but I’m a complete WordPress newbie and need help please ….

I’m creating an events site which lists events taking place all over the UK and I need to find the best Plugins to use. I would like the following functionality:-
Visitors to be able to search for events based on event category, date and location (x miles from their postcode).
A calendar view and list view.
Visitors to be able to submit their own events.

Additionally, I’d also like to create another section which is a directory of groups and vendors associated with the events.

I’ve trawled the various pages of Plugins available and it seems I’d need 3 to achieve what I want to do; an event plugin + directory plugin + UK postcode locator plugin.

Any advice or suggestions welcome.
