[newbie] where or how adjust archive template

  • Hi, I’m new here and new to WordPress. Please forgive me if I’m on the wrong forum.
My question is short: Where (or how) do I adjust the ‘archives template’?

After installing WordPress, I started to adjust the Kubrick theme. (It doesn’t look like the Kubrick theme anymore by now)
I found out how I could change the index.php, and changed the header, footer and sidebar templates. I even found the ‘single entry’ template (single.php) and adjusted it. I’m almost done now, except for the archive, because I can’t find the template. I tried to adjust archive.php and archives.php, but it made no difference. So how do I adjust the archive template?

  • If by “archive template” you mean the file that is used to display the monthly and category archives listing… that would be the archive.php (no S at the end!)
    Archives.php is a Page Template.
About templates and how they work:

I already read codex.wordpress.org/Template_Hierarchy, but it didn’t bring me any further. But anyway I know that I need to adjust archive.php. Thanks.

You will have to use the same html tags and structure in that file as you have in the index and single. Based on the validation results there is something wrong with that template.
