  • Hi
I only recently started having a go with building a blog, using Textpattern. I just downloaded the latest stable build of WordPress, as well as Serendipity, to compare it to Textpattern.
How does WordPress compare to Textpattern and Serendipity? Somebody told me that WordPress uses some Pearl in the code, is this true?
I’m using my Windows NT4 Server sp6a hard drive for development (with a Windows 98SE hard drive as my second drive) and I have loaded apache 1.3.29 and php4.32 as well as mysql 3.23.52. I’m developing the blog for my church and their web host uses mysql 3.23.52. They also have mod_rewrite mode listed as a loaded module in apache when I run phpinfo()
I’m a newbie to php, apache and mysql but I’m a part time IT student and I’ve covered both coldfusion and asp as well as a few programming languages including ANSI C Java so I’m hoping to pick things up as I go along
What are the good tutorials to read?

  • Hi
    Thanks for your reply.
I was just in TextPattern using my localhost on my home pc and I just managed to solve my “image upload problem”. It took me a few days to figure this out so in a way I’m glad you said TextPattern is the better tool for something more comprehensive than “just a blog tool”.
I might be getting good marks in my studies but I still often seem to find problems in IT that make me feel like a “brainless twit” for at least a few days.
I’ll try installing both WordPress and Serendipity soon but I have to get on top of my homework first. I’ve got homework for both Java and my Applications class. I’ve got term break coming up soon so I’ll see how I go with that in the next couple of weeks.
Your blog looks interesting. I’ll keep an eye on it. The blog I’m developing will be part of my church’s web site at I’ll have it up soon.
    Have a good day
    Peter Mount

    No problem. 🙂
