Support » Fixing WordPress » Newbie needs help with themes that support mobile phones

  • Hi all,

I’ve been reading and setting up for about two weeks.
    Off n On.

I’m running of IIS 5.1 (finally!)
    On Step 4 now.

Now I’m trying to pick a wordpress theme that supports smart phones.

Before WordPress, I’m used to super simple hardly functional web sites designed for smart phones.

With WordPress, None of the themes so far actually reflect the quality of the web site when I browse using my android phone.
I haven’t tested on an iPhone as yet.

I tried Mobius cause I wanted to see how flashy I could get.
But don’t know what to do the get it to work with my smart phone.

I’ve also downloaded the wordpress-mobile-pack but don’t know what to do with it.

I might be suffering from info over load.

I’d prefer to read and learn how to do it myself.

If someone could reply with a hyperlink to an exact reference on how to customize(?) a theme or which plugin to use to help with supporting a mobile phone browser, would be fantastic.

Any positive constructive assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    tia and all my best,
    Barry G. Sumpter

    Hi Barry,

I’d suggest searching for themes that fall into the “responsive” group, there are several very good free ones available in the WordPress theme repository. Responsive themes flex to fit the screen of the device you view it on, sometimes hiding or showing bits of content based on how crowded or spread-out the elements might be.

    Hi Drew,

    Thanks for the quick response.

I already tried a number of them with the same result.
    I’m try a few more.

I don’t see any further instructions after installing them.

I’m wondering if its an plugin for mobile I’m missing?

Anyone else have any positive constructive suggestions?

I don’t see any further instructions after installing them.

In many cases, after you’ve installed and activated a theme via the Appearance > Themes menu, there will also appear a Theme Options menu under Appearance. If you don’t see one, another place to look is in the semi-new Customizer feature. You can get there by visiting Appearance > Themes, then clicking the Customize link next to your theme’s name in the top-half of the screen.

No further instructions to get mobile browsers looking the same as a desktop browser.

Is anyone has any hints about how to get mobile browsers to look like the desktop browser please post.
