    Hello,
I am a total newbie with wp. i recently got my site up and running, uploaded a new theme (the morning after v1.4), and have been experimenting with adding new categories. on my wp-admin dashboard, i see that i have added categories but unfortunately they don’t appear on my site.

for example, i’ve added two categories: testcat and testcat2 and created news post associated with each. (see http://66.147.242.169/~carbonma/ )

i would expect to see both categories on the right under “categories”, but i don’t. if i change my theme to the default theme offered by my hoster, everything looks great. maybe my uploaded theme doesn’t understand categories? my friend suggested comparing the php code related to categories in both themes, but i have no idea where to start. any ideas would be helpful! oh, i am using wp v2.7.1.

Your uploaded theme is almost certainly configured to hid empty categories. It’s actually the “polite thing” to do. After all, visitors might get annoyed if they clicked on a category link only to be presented by a completely blank category page. However, as soon as you add posts to these new categories, you should see them appear in your sidebar.
