• Hi everyone.

I downloaded WP 2.5.1 through Fantastico. I uploaded (via FTP) a theme and put it in my wp-themes folder. When I login to my dashboard, I go under Design>Themes and I click on my theme. My dashboard says it’s active. I click on the “view site” option and my site opens, but it is simply the Lunarpages holding page from my host.

I tried the two default themes that came with wordpress … I can’t view them either!

I tried in Firefox and IE – no luck. I even rebooted … nothing. All I get is my holding page.

Am I missing something? Is there something else I should be doing, other than going to my dashboard, going to Design>Themes and just clicking the theme’s icon?

    Thank you for any help.

  • I did what you have done and it worked, it may be something to do with your host, maybe email them and tell them the problem as there may be some settings that need to be modified.

From what you are saying it should be working

Unfortunately, my host will not offer any tech help on wordpress. The most they did was walk me through downloading it … after that, I’m on my own.

I searched the forums here … using “view” “problem” and “theme” as search terms, but I can’t find any posts on this problem.

    This is so frustrating.

Maybe ask your host if they have other clients who use wordpress on their servers,no need to name them but just if they do run it successfully

How long ago did you set up your site? It will take a while for DNS to resolve.

    Thank you for these suggestions.

Someone also just suggested to me that my browser will always show the Index.php or index.html page of my site as my home page and right now, that page is a Lunarpages holding page. And since my blog is going to BE my site – with no “/blog” in the url, just sixdegreesofnormal.com – then somehow I have to replace that index.html page with that of the theme I choose.

I searched these forums with this in mind and came up with this post: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/135998?replies=5

I’m always leery about deleting a file, but this does sound like it might solve my problem, doesn’t it?

I guess I’ll try it and see what happens. In the worst case scenario, I can always just uninstall and reinstall wordpress and start from scratch, right?

No, you don’t replace it with the THEME. You have already installed WP there. If there is no index.html file (the default for your host’s server config), then it shows the index.php file. Just delete (or rename) the index.html file and voila, your WP install will magically appear.

In fact, click this (notice how I’ve already typed index.php there?):
    http://sixdegreesofnormal.com/index.php

And you’ll see your site’s there and fine as can be. But because there is that index.html file there, just typing the URL http://sixdegreesofnormal.com will display that index.html file unless and until it’s deleted or renamed (rename it index.orig or something).
