Did you set your language in WordPress settings?

Same here – how do we, simple mortals, can benefit from this plugin? No button “translate my site” or “display language menu” – and no hints whatsoever on the FAQ page or on https://localise.biz/help/wordpress/translate-plugin

I did translate some 10% of the strings to another language, but see no options how to see the actual result? Thanks.

There is no “display language menu” button because this plugin does not change your language. It just manages your translation files. You have to set your WordPress language or provide a way for visitors to switch between languages.

    So, as I’ve already asked:

Did you set your language in WordPress settings?

    Hi Tim,

    Thanks for your quick response.

Your link was referring to adjustments in sites hosted on wordpress.com, which I have nothing to do with – my site is hosted independently on a VPS, and uses your plugin.
I installed your plugin because of the good reviews, hoping that it would act just like other translation plugins – offer to my site’s front-end users and subscribers an option in the header menu, to choose some other language.

Is this doable, and how exactly?

    Thanks again.

Those language settings instructions will work on your VPS, but you’d have to enable automatic updates, which is – as probably you know – a security risk. I don’t do it myself. You can also get languages to show up in that dropdown list by manually installing the core translation files for a given language.

But anyway, you’re talking about visitors switching languages. I can’t recommend any particular plugin for language switching, but users of my plugin have mentioned Polylang. I haven’t looked at it, but perhaps it’s what you need.

It would be pretty easy to write your own plugin for this or even just build it into the theme, but advice on that is way beyond the scope of support here.

Some new help pages I’ve written this week:

Beginner’s guide to translating a theme:
    https://localise.biz/help/wordpress/translate-plugin/beginners

    Setting your WordPress language:
    https://localise.biz/help/wordpress/site-language

I have to close this ticket as there’s a lot of information in those links. If you have any specific problems, please post it in a new thread.
