Newb instiall issue

I downloaded WordPress and unzipped it. I read the read me file before i did anything. I followed the readme files instructions letter for letter, but i can’t get it tow ork. This is my first time using a CMS site as well as a blog software.

After installing the module, i click on the word press icon to go into it’s control panel. All i get is a blank page. If i hover my cursor over it, i get a pop of of the control panel i can access: Index, Permissions, Blocks, Options and Preferences.

The only one i can click and get anything from is Preferences.. Under this i get the interface style, module theme 9 which there is nothing to choose), rss charset, and show excerpt. I have tried every combination between the style and charset to no avail of getting any response.

if i click any other of the controal panel links in word press i get blank pages. With the exception of Opions.

If i choose Options, i get this error:

Fatal error: Undefined class name ‘xoopslocal’ in /home/smart35/public_html/modules/wordpress/include/xoops-wp.php on line 113

I opened that file in DreamWeaver to see what it is. Went back to the read me file and re-read it. I did everything i was supposed to do, but i can’t get the WordPress module to work.
