• Hi! I’ve been slaving over this laptop for I don’t know how long, over the same problem, and can’t seem to resolve anything.

I’m pretty much a noob when it comes to anything regarding websites, which means I require the simplest explanation of terms as possible, if any are willing.

I had my web host install wordpress for me. In the process it created a MySQL database, and generated for it a username, pw, and database name. When I checked the wp-config.php file via a PHP client, I noticed it had automatically copied the database username, pw, and database name, so I let the wp-config file alone, not making any adjustments.

I could log into my MySQL account via PHPMyadmin, as somewhere in some manual said I had to create a new user name, but couldn’t find that option. All I could see was, a separate table to the left, displaying my database name and below it, information schema.

It seemed to me that all I needed to do was to get to http://mydomain.com/wp-admin/install.php, but whenever I do I just get my standard web host opening-page. Nothing about wordpress, log-in, or install.

I’m getting really desperate and have tried installing WP manually, deleting the database, letting my web host install it again, but nothing seems to help. What am I missing?!!!

  • check to see it there is an index.htl or index.html in the folder where th ewp-config.php is. You should alse see an index.php (don’t touch that)

If the index.htm exists, rename it to index.htmold and then see if you can get to your wordpress.

Juggledad, I looked and only see the index.php file. no other index files whatsoever 🙁

Could it have anything to do with not being able to create a myqsl user account in phpmyadmin?

And that is all you needed to do 🙂 There is no need to create another db user, etc.

When you say that the web host install WP, did they actually do it or did you use their “automated installer” (QuickInstall, Softilicious, Fantastico, etc.)?

You should probaby contact your host and find out what folder your domain name is pointing to.
