I'm new to WordPress. I designed my current website - http://www.nexusstor.com using Joomla. It is being hosted at a company called CloudAccess.net. I want to completely redesign the website using WordPress and have it hosted at Dreamhost. However, I want to avoid downtime if possible. When I put in my domain name at BlueHost, should I use another domain name, and then when I'm done with my website using WordPress then switch the Domain Names to point to BlueHost.

I figure it will take me about a month to develop my new site, but want to avoid downtime of my current site.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

You don't have to use another domain name. You can just develop the WP site in your local PC or elsewhere. Once you are done, just upload your site to Dreamhost, and change DNS server for the domain.

Nowadays it usually takes around 3 to 5 hours to propagate, but might take 12 to 24 hours.

It can take a maximum of 72 hours for the new DNS entry to propagate.

BTW, you can check the propagation at

nexusstor.com was deleted from our servers on the 21st, and is registered with GODADDY.COM,LLC

    Your nameservers are: NS1.GRIDFAST.NET / NS2.GRIDFAST.NET

I'm not entirely sure that's BlueHost... You still have another domain with us at DreamHost, but it's not using our NameServers, it's using GoDaddy's, so you'd want to change the DNS there to point to NS1.DREAMHOST.COM and NS2.DREAMHOST.COM
