# New Version for Google Change?

 * Just got something from Google about a change in the tag. Are you going to be
   updating this to work with that change or is there another plugin you’d recommend?
 * Hello,
   We noticed that some or all of your website pages deploy Google tag [**AW-xxxxx**](https://wordpress.org/Users/chris/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/9r8jpp18.default-release/Mail/mail.envisiondesignsolutions.com/Inbox?number=38217#m_-1641777475524458734_)
   via a Google Tag Manager snippet (gtm.js). This configuration will soon no longer
   be supported.
 * **What’s changing?**
   To ensure consistency across all websites using the Google
   tag, we are standardizing our tagging snippet behavior. Starting on **October
   02, 2026**, all gtm.js snippets will initialize on container load, regardless
   of any gtag(‘config’) commands.
 * To continue using the gtag configuration code, you must ensure all pages on your
   site use the gtag/js code snippet.
 * **Next steps**
   If you don’t take any action, this update may alter how your tags
   behave. Please update your tag deployment to use gtag/js instead of gtm.js, by
   following [these instructions](https://c.gle/ACT4xYyIzlD0vyE7aWy1-ndYkR35ub93KZzqJWyJeQT8tkLiQbSU-kWRJJ2XFjNJSlUyYuHaqwSTUCkJ5vkRz_bofG37kon8J50PnMluvljyx0W2n1_mN9eowVori86gYkP1aK9UK5jQ1hdB3_WdB09mYes_V71cELdKYaTvkWP9wDfj).

 * Hi [@envisiondesign](https://wordpress.org/support/users/envisiondesign/) ,
 * Thanks for reaching out.
 * That notice is most likely not about this plugin, but it depends on what’s in
   your Container ID field. Could you check?
 * If it’s a GTM- ID: you’re fine, and nothing needs to change here. Google is only
   dropping support for non-GTM tag IDs (G-, AW-, DC-) served from the gtm.js path.
   Container IDs on gtm.js remain fully supported. In that case your AW- tag is
   configured inside your GTM container, so the change is in your container setup
   rather than in WordPress. Google’s guide walks through it: [https://support.google.com/tagmanager/answer/17231523](https://support.google.com/tagmanager/answer/17231523)
 * If you entered the AW- ID directly into the plugin field: that’s outside what
   this plugin is built for. It’s designed for Tag Manager container IDs and always
   outputs the container snippet, which isn’t the right deployment for an AW- tag.
   To follow Google’s instructions you’d want the gtag.js snippet on your pages
   instead — the exact snippet is in the guide linked above, under “Supported and
   unsupported implementations.” Any header and footer script plugin can place it.
 * Happy to confirm which case applies if you let us know what’s in the field.
 * Best regards,
   Kamal
