• Version 0.5 was causing some problems so when I saw there was a new version available I installed it hoping it would fix it. But when I activated 0.6, My site breaks when I add the widget to a section. I have deleted and reinstalled the plugin, deleted and reinstalled the calendar feed and it’s just not working. Frustrated.

    Hi ukmelia,

Could you elaborate on ‘breaks site’? Are there any error messages etc?

    Thanks,
    Ross.

I’m sorry. What happens is when the plugin is activated and I install the widget, the calendar feed doesn’t load nor does the rest of the site past the widget. I mean it loads the header, the feature content area, and then comes to the calendar widget and just stops. No footer, no content area below it, nothing.

When I deactivate the plugin, everything loads fine. I do not get any error messages in the admin area or in the site itself when the plugin is activated. It just stops loading.

I reinstalled version 0.5 and that works fine in list view, but on inside pages where I’ve put the widget in the sidebar in grid view – with and without ajax – I don’t get the icon to move to the next or previous month which is the problem I was having originally and prompted me to install version 0.6.

My site is http://stuhrmuseum.org/WP and I’m using a theme called ‘Diner’. I apologise for not including all this in my original post. I’ve never gotten a response here when I report problems so you surprised me 🙂

No problem! Thanks for the details.

This is very odd. Clearly an error is occurring, but without knowing what the error is, it’s hard to guess what could be going wrong. If possible, could you install 0.6 again, and then add the following to your wp-config.php file:

    define('WP_DEBUG', true);

Now, if you try the same procedure you describe above, you should see an error message (or perhaps several). If you could let me know what any error messages say, it should give me a better idea of what is going wrong.

You should then remove the above line from your wp-config.php file again.

    Ross.

Ok I ran the debug and this is the error it throws:

Fatal error: Call to a member function get_feed_start() on a non-object in /var/www/vhosts/stuhrmuseum.org/httpdocs/WP/wp-content/plugins/google-calendar-events/inc/gce-parser.php on line 173

    Hmm, I’m puzzled.

I’ve been through the code, and I can’t figure out what’s causing this at the moment.

Could you let me know the feed URL(s) and feed settings you are using, so I can try to replicate the issue?

    Thanks,
    Ross.

    Sure, the feed is
    http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/stuhrmuseumgi@gmail.com/public/basic

And I didn’t mess with the default settings beyond adding the feed. In the widget I use both ‘List – grouped by date’ and ‘Calendar grid – with ajax’ in two separate areas.

I’ve left it installed on the site right now and you can see where it stops loading (Not sure if you saw that.)

    Great, thanks.

I’ll do some testing / investigation and get back to you when I’ve worked out what’s going on.

    Hi again,

I’m really struggling to replicate this problem. I’ve tried several feeds, with many settings configurations. I’ve tried various themes, and installed a couple of plugins I can see you have installed (WordPress Simple PayPal Shopping Cart, FancyBox for WordPress), to check for conflicts.

I’ve tested on Windows (PHP 5.3), Linux (PHP 5.2.13) and OSX (PHP 5.3.1).

Whatever I try, I can’t get the error to occur. It’s really hard to debug something when you can’t replicate it!

If you deactivate all plugins except Google Calendar Events, and use the default TwentyTen theme, does it make any difference?

    Ross.

    (@ukmelia)

Ok, I’ve tried that, and the plugin worked just fine. It must be my theme 🙁 I can’t change the theme I’m afraid. I’ll just use version 0.5. I really and truly appreciate your time and effort.

    Ah, I see, that’s a shame.

I wonder if this occurs in other themes too. I’ll keep an eye out for reports of similar issues, and if I manage to find where the conflict lies and come up with a workaround, I’ll let you know.

    Ross.
