After being a long time user of the previous versions (it was working without thinking about it during many years), the update to the version 5.x is just impossible to configure for a simple ftp or sftp backup. The UX/UI is obviously designed to be the simplest possible compared to the previous versions, but it is just very badly implemented. Disappointing.

    Hi @ttoine,

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback, and we’re truly sorry for the frustration caused by the version 5 update — especially after being a long-time user.

We understand your disappointment with the new interface and the difficulties around setting up FTP/SFTP backups. The redesign aimed to simplify the experience, but we recognize that it also removed flexibility many users depended on.

That said, we’ve already brought back custom scheduling, backup history, and file format selection (ZIP, TAR, TAR.GZ). We’re also actively working on removing the two-job limitation, so users can once again create and manage multiple jobs — including those with FTP destinations — just like before.

If you’d prefer to wait for further updates, you can roll back to version 4.1.7 here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/backwpup/advanced/.

Thanks again for your support over the years — we’re committed to making BackWPup better again.
