new user registration- unknown user

    We have a wordpress website that I update for our church. Just received an email from a wordpress email prefix today with this message:
    “New user registration on your site (our site name)” followed by an unknown email address. Only a couple staff members are registered to manage the website. Where did this come from? Has our site been hacked?

    Have you checked the site today? If so, is this new user listed? Is “Anyone can register” checked in Settings -> eGneral? If so, uncheck it and save your changes.

    Thanks for the good info! Just changed the setting as you suggested and deleted this individual.
