New User reg, but not in users list

    Over the past few months, I’ve had a ton of New User Registration emails show up. None of the users from the emails are in the Users list in the admin panel. The email and usernames given are almost always obvious spam.

    The plugins I have installed related to registration and spam are Ban Hammer, SABRE and Bad Behavior.

    Is it possible one of these is preventing the spammers/bots from finishing the signup process but the emails are still getting sent to me?

    I have just the same user regitration, which is obviously a spam or hack like (usrnme: A0J655t, e-mail: ***@gmail.com)

    WP admin has received New User Registration e-mail.
    After checking there is no such user in a users list.

    I have also tried password restore on a frontend for above user, but wp says: No such user.

    Can anybody please comment what is actually going on, is it harmful, and how can I prevent it?

    This installation has no security related plugins installed.
    In addition it has Membership plugin.
