The new UI does not work properly with Macintosh and Safari. I am using Safari 18.3.1 on Mac Sequoia 15.3.2. I have gone through a cycle of deactivating, deleting BackWPup, reinstalling it and activating it several times. Each time when I select FTP and fill in the appropriate configuration information (which is accepted by the “Save and Test” button, BackWPup uses the Website Server target, even when it is shown as not being selected. The UI requires the admin to create a backup as the initial action, but when selecting FTP, filling in the appropriate information and Saving/Testing it, it returns to the settings page and immediately starts backing up the site. This not desirable, since it does not give the admin the opportunity to select the type of backup (I want .zip), but instead backs up to .tar. The initial backup is saved to the “Website Server” (whatever that is), but uses a directory called “uploads” that doesn’t exist. When I create such a directory before reinstalling BackWPup, the backup file is not saved there. If I deactivate and then reactivate BackWPup in order to get it to reset its settings, then delete the backup information created during installation, it hangs the browser. None of the links work (clicking on them does nothing) and I am forced to deactivate and uninstall the plugin, then install it again and activate it. This puts me back into the situation described above.

In summary, at least for Macintosh/Safari, this UI is unusable. I would like a way to uninstall it and install the previous version (4.x), which worked flawlessly.

    Hi,

    Thank you for reaching out.

I tested BackWPUp with the latest versions of Mac and Safari, and it appears to work flawlessly on my end. I have attached a screen recording here. https://we.tl/t-QEVyjNejyC.

It is possible that a browser extension is conflicting, or that another problem exists. Can you confirm that it works properly when using Chrome?

I look forward to your reply.

I updated WordPress to 6.8.1. I uninstalled BackWPup and reinstalled/reactivated it, getting 5.2.2. I reconfigured it to use FTP and the “Save and Test” button indicated that the configuration worked. I used Chrome and the problem remains. I noticed in your screen recording video that you used dropbox, not FTP. I suggest you rollback the plugin to 4.x or provide customers a way to use 4.x until you properly test the new version. I notice that I am not the only customer complaining that the new version does not work properly.

Just for the record, I fortunately only upgraded BackWPup on two websites. I have used the backups for these two sites that I made right before I did the upgrade (which is the prudent thing to do) to restore the old plugin. I have informed the users of these sites that any changes they made since the backup are lost and they will have to reload this information.

I will upgrade BackWPup on a development site I manage and when it works properly, upgrade the live sites. This experience should teach a lesson. Never release a new version of a plugin that has not been thoroughly tested. This product is used in production sites and releasing buggy code is very unprofessional.
