This post is an annoucement about the opening of a template validation service : themecheck.org

themecheck.org is a site where you can freely upload and validate web themes and templates. Once uploaded, the service will analyse the uploaded file and run hundreds of tests to verify security and code quality. At the end it gives you a quality score and a list of alerts and warnings.

This site is free and open source. Sources are available on github.

Another cool feature of this site is the possibility to display a label on another website that links to themecheck.org and that shows its validation score. This is useful for websites that distribute themes or templates.

Fell free to give us some feedback.

New WP version Screenshot size was increased, so I give -1% to themecheck.org itself :)

    Otherwise looks good ;)

  3. peoleo? Thanks but these forums are not for promoting external services and there's already documentation for making "Good" themes.

If you want to contribute to the forums for theme related items then please do.

  4. If you want to make an announcement like that then please do so on your own blog.

Peoleo, you should contact http://wptavern.com they might write a feature article about your project, because it looks interesting.

  6. Tomas? I like the way you think. :D

peoleo That's good advice and I suggest you reach out to http://wptavern.com/ and ask them what they think of your site.

Would be nice to have sorting option, e.g. show only themes that have 100% score, that way it would be useful for theme users too.

Great idea. We'll add this feature in the near future.

Show them (WPTavern) this theme :)

BTW you have to solve this, because if it's a child theme, you have to drop certain requirements or to pull them from parent theme.

And if theme with 12 critical alerts and 15 warnings still scores 91% then ranking algorithm is not very reliable.

Agreed. We won't be writing about it until the problems with ranking child themes are fixed.

A new version of themecheck.org is now online.

    • We changed the score calculation algorithm. It is a lot more severe with critical alerts : -20% whereas Warnings count for -1%
    • Some critical alerts were downgraded to warnings (in checks about snapshots, metadata, etc.)
    • Child themes are managed correctly. Now, some checks don’t apply to child themes anymore
    • Improved management of template overrides
