New target for linked thumbnails

Hi,

thank you for an excellent plugin!
I use this plugin to display thumbnails to related posts. I need to open the links in a new target window. I found here a workaround to manage it.

But it only works for the linked image caption.
Is there a way to extend this feature to the displayed thumbnails?
