Support » Networking WordPress » New Site w/subdomain forwards to Main Site/Domain

  • I upgraded my site to 3.1, then enabled Network and added a site as a subdomain. I edited wp-config.php and .htaccess as indicated and added a wildcard subdomain on my hosting control panel. I have it pointing to the same hosting subscription as my main domain.

When I try to access the site (dashboard, front end, whatever) it forwards to the main domain: omd.e-business.ie -> e-business.ie

I had some additional rewrites in the .htaccess from when I moved the original site from a static site to WP. I’ve deleted them thinking that may have caused the redirect but it didn’t.

Did I miss any other steps?

  • You should be able to get it running by editing the settings tab for the new sub domain.

Ann – if you tried to enable wildcard subdomains on an *add on domain* to your webhost, that will not work.

Most shared hosts only set those to direct to the main domain of the web account.

Thanks Andrea, I have a few accounts on same reseller panel where the wildcard subdomain worked. The difference is that this is the main account so wondering if set up differently.

Will it work ok if I just set up the subdomain? or I could change it to work by subdirectory as I am going to use domain mapping anyway, right?

    I’d use subdirectories myself.
