Support » Fixing WordPress » New site worked fine then tried to change permalinks and now only white screen

  • I had started a new blog, well, e-commerce site using Market Theme. Everything was find, I had several items listed then remembered I wanted to change permalinks to post name. I was told to modify .htaccess file but couldn’t find one, so created one with the required code and uploaded it to folder where wp-admin is. Suddenly I only get white screen for all pages/posts. I can login and see admin and everything there. I went back and changed permalinks to default and still getting white screen. I checked through older posts about white screen and did a few of the things that I thought might help, like changing plugins file name to plugins_hold to deactivate them. I went to 2012 theme and renamed market theme’s folder. I went into myPHP and fixed tables. I fooled around with permissions. Nothing helped and I’m stumped as to why everything was fine until I uploaded an .htaccess file and why deleting it and going back to default permalinks didn’t fix everything.

Update since I’ve been typing my story – I decided to delete everything and start over. Unfortunately I’m a dunce and now I can’t get to my admin! I am currently working on manually uploading wordpress to my cpanel so I can get back into admin. :/

In the meantime, can someone help?

  • Delete the .htaccess file.

    Login to the dashboard
    Goto settings / Permalinks

select Post Name here then save changes. That will create your .htaccess file for your and should take care of your problems.
