  • Hi, I tried a search on here and google and worded it as many ways as I could think of and can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. I’m sure it’s out there, I just don’t know enough about what I’m looking at to find it so I apologize if I missed it.

I just got the site up and running, very basic setup so far, I don’t know much so I’m learning as I go. Right now it’s still a work in progress but I need to get the basics going. The desktop version seems good, my problem is when I try to open it in my iphone or anyone else tries to use a mobile device, it’s not functional.

My site is: (very high brow stuff..haha)

I’ve tried many different mobile plugins and nothing seems to work. Is it a theme compatibility issue, or a simple setting? I’m using “Elegant Grunge.”

This is how it looks from my phone and I don’t know how to edit this layout or where to go to do so:

    <img src=”; title=”Hosted by”/>

The above is the typical layout I see from my phone, but then sometimes if I click “Classic” layout on the bottom from my phone, the mobile plugin I installed will briefly display. It seems like no matter what I do though, there’s no menu functionality or anything.

Currently I have uninstalled any mobile plugins. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, and worst case if you can’t help, check out the site and let me know what you think. 🙂

  • Did you get that theme here?

    Elegant Grunge

It’s quite outdated – probably not going to work well on a mobile device.

Your best bet is probably to use a “responsive” theme – they are coded to work on various sized devices without using a plugin. Twentytwelve, for example, works quite nicely, as do many other more current themes.

    Thank you for the reply.

Yes, I believe that’s where I got it. It’s the same version 1.0.3

I forgot to mention I tried a handful of other themes and didn’t seem to change the mobile experience to differ from that page. It seemed to no matter what, display that picture I included which had the “My Page” banner as depicted. Or if it displayed differently I ran in to the same problem of no menu functionality on mobile version.

Any recommendations of a theme I should try to pinpoint the problem?

Twentytwelve, Suffusion, Responsive (many others) all work great on mobile devices, including menus. They may not have the exact look or layout you want – but that’s generally customizable – though if you change things, you need to take care not to “damage” the responsiveness.

Oops, looks like you’re already trying Custom Community which is another nice one – and if you have questions about it, you an ask the developer here:

Thanks again, yeah I just tried Responsive and Custom community and they were both giving me the same mobile display as above. I must be missing something…no idea why it’s displaying like that and still not letting me have any mobile menu functionality.

Should I try a plugin on top of a responsive theme?

Sorry, I just can’t seem to get it figured out. :/

The link above still shows Elegant Grunge – can you post a link to your site with Responsive theme active?

I just changed it now, should be showing “Responsive” Theme now.

Haven’t really set anything up yet.

I see the mobile menu – where only “home” shows – and you click on it to see the menu drop down. Is that not what you see? What browser are you using?

I see that now, but in order to see it with the “Responsive” mobile theme, I had to scroll to the bottom of the page on my phone and click “Classic view”

Now I see what you’re talking about, but if I click on any of the menu buttons, it doesn’t load still.

Oh, whoops, and I’m using safari on my iphone.

Desktop version is fine on IE or Firefox.

Do you have a mobile plugin on ? OR some other mobile option?

No mobile plugins anymore, I did add a couple things which you can see in this pic. Should I try deactivating plugins and seeing if it resolves it you think?

JetPack has a mobile option – do you have that module of JP active?
That “classic” view – choice thing – I don’t think that’s part of Responsive…I just checked on a test site of mine and don’t get that.

Sorry for the delay, for some reason I couldn’t connect to this site from my computer for a while.

I found the JetPack mobile option, it wasn’t active. I turned it on and it still did not change anything.

The “classic” button is still at the bottom and nothing is functioning properly on mobile as far as navigation still.

Does your hosting company have some automatic mobile option?

Try deactivating all your plugins and switch to the twentytwelve theme – that’s the standard troubleshooting process to narrowing down what’s doing what (we hope).

Yes, it’s hosted through and they offer a “quick setup” It’s a plugin I think. I already tried disabling that with no luck as well.

Now I just did what you said and deactivated everything, and switched to the theme. Still doing the same thing on mobile. :/
