# New setup, Complete Newbie

 * Hi, I’m trying to setup wordpress I’m getting the following :
    “Can’t select
   database We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username
   and password is okay) but not able to select the WordPress database. Are you 
   sure it exists? On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your
   username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the problem? “
 * the box is mandrake, running apache 2.0.53, php 4.3.10 and MySQL 4.1.11
 * I followed the steps for setting up a DB and user in MySQL, double checked all
   spelling, etc.
 * I’m a complete newbie in this, having just started. Can anyone point me in the
   right direction as to what to do now? There is no one left here to ask…..

 * Did you create the database ?
 * if you have cpanel go to : MySQL Databases
 * add a db under -> Db: —– add db
 * then add the user to this db .
 * it should work …

 * Thank you for your reply. I just came back on to say “never mind” 🙂 I wiped 
   out the DB and the user, and recreated everything, and now things are working(
   so far) thanks again for your reply.
