[Resolved] New page 404

  • Permalink structure is /%postname%/

    When my permalink structure is set to anything but the default, I get a 404 error on all pages except for the home page.

    I did verify that my .htaccess has

    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>

    Any suggestions on fixing the problem without the use of a plugin?

  • Is your .htaccess in the right location?

    Is there anything in your error logs?

    Have you asked yoru host if you can use .htaccess in this way?

    .htaccess is in the root of the WordPress directory

    The error I see is:
    [Tue Aug 30 11:32:08 2011] [error] [client 10.10.2.133] File does not exist: /var/www/electric, referer: http://10.10.2.201/

    This is a server that I built for test with just LAMP

    Aha 🙂

    Make sure mod_rewrite is turned on in LAMP.

    that fixed it. thanks for catching it!
