New month, upload media folder gets created by wrong user

    This has probably been tackled before but after searching a load through google I can’t seem to find anyone with the same thing. Maybe I’m wording it wrong.

    At the start of every new month, WordPress creates a new folder.
    So this month it created uploads/2014/04

    The problem I have is, WordPress is creating this folder as the root user instead of the nginx user.
    This means that people uploading pictures in my wordpress backend get an error until I CHOWN the directory from root to nginx.

    After that all files upload file, and all the files are owned by nginx as you would expect. In nginx server, user is nginx.

    I’m not sure why it’s using root but I’d love to stop it in time for May.

    A year on and it’s still doing this any idea’s?

    PHP-FPM user is set as nginx
    Nginx user is set as nginx
    1st of every month it creates a new directory with user:group root:root and I have to manually intervene.
