Support » Plugins » Hacks » New Media Manager always allowing terms to be added to custom taxonomy

  • When a custom taxonomy is created for post type ‘attachment’ and the capability to edit terms is not granted, a user is still able to add terms when uploading through the new media manager. I believe that the capability to add terms should not appear in this case.

I’m considering reporting this as a bug, but first I wanted to see if anyone else has had the same issue.

I have not encountered this issue because of how my site is set up, but I see how it’s an issue for you. Generally speaking, edit capabilities are always separate from create or add capabilities, though this does not always make sense logically.

So I wouldn’t call it a bug really, as it is functioning as intended even if it doesn’t work for you. Perhaps a design flaw or need for improvement. I don’t think there actually is an edit term capability, so the problem is the current system cannot finely distinguish between terms and attachments, if you can add one, you can add the other.
