Hi, I installed second WordPress in new folder in public www, all ok but on logging in to admin the main page was blank, just the menu down the left, no title bar at the top, I can click menu but pages do not show. I uninstalled and tried again, no joy, previous WP worked ok, I have now uninstalled that as it is not needed and thought may be causing the problem, the uninstall and install afresh but no joy. The site does work but not admin. The installation is via Fantastico and usually works like a dream, any ideas?

  • Hi, why not download WordPress and upload via FTP/SFTP ? The issue might be due missing files. I would suggest turning WP_DEBUG true in wp-config.php. Blank screens appear when there is PHP error and error messages are not showing (disabled). To enable add define('WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', true); into wp-config.php

Why are you trying to use such an old version of WordPress?

Thanks for response, this is the version available to install using Fantastico with my provider; Hostgator, easy install and can update once it’s setup.

I would go with michalzuber. Enable debugging. I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago and the error was a due to memory being exhausted. Although in my case it was a new plugin wanted more memory.

Fantastico can be a quick fix, but the best is to manually install. The manual way also just gives good practise.

Thanks for all advice, I may have screwed things up by twice install and uninstall so might need to clean up a bit.
I will try five minute install, will have latest version and as you say a bit of good practice.

After reading some installation troubles your Forum members have had with installation I played safe and used QuickInstall, a couple of clicks and I was on the Admin page in seconds, sorry to chicken out but WordPress always worked so well so I took advantage of the hard work someone else has put in to make it easy for me, thanks for help. solved.
